Contact : François Specq
This lecture will describe the interpretive context of my book project and lay the groundwork for the specific readings in the following lectures. I will develop three points in particular about the project : the critical history and theoretical context ; the place of democratic republican thought ; and the connections between republicanism and the peace movement, including the Peace Congresses held in Paris, where Victor Hugo presided, and in Frankfurt, where the Ojibway intellectual George Copway was a prominent figure.
