Séminaire « Scottish Seminar » 2026

SSEMP XIV is the fourteenth edition of a yearly international workshop that brings together established scholars, young researchers and advanced graduate students working in the field of Early Modern Philosophy. SSEMP welcomes papers on any topic in early modern philosophy (broadly defined to mean pre-Kantian philosophy ranging from late Renaissance philosophy to the early Enlightenment). We particularly encourage proposals which consider early modern philosophy in relation to related disciplines, such as theology, the history of literature, intellectual history and the history of science. SSEMP is conceived as a forum where established academics, early career researchers, and advanced PhD students can meet. We make an effort to assure a reasonable gender balance.
SSEMP XIV will begin on 14 May, 11am, and finish on 15 May, 4pm. (approx.)

The SSEMP XIV is organised in collaboration between the Philosophy Department at The University of Edinburgh and the ERC project NOTCOM (ERC AdG 101052433) at the Maison Française d’Oxford / IHRIM, ENS de Lyon.

SSEMP XVI est la quatorzième édition d’un atelier international annuel qui réunit des universitaires confirmé·es, de jeunes chercheur·es et des doctorant·es avancé·es travaillant dans le domaine de la philosophie moderne. SSEMP accueille des communications sur tous les sujets liés à la philosophie moderne (entendue au sens large comme la philosophie pré-Kantienne, allant de la philosophie de la fin de la Renaissance au début des Lumières). Nous encourageons particulièrement les propositions qui abordent la philosophie moderne en relation avec des disciplines connexes, telles que la théologie, l’histoire de la littérature, l’histoire intellectuelle et l’histoire des sciences. SSEMP est conçu comme un forum où des universitaires confirmé·es, de jeunes chercheur·es et des doctorant·es avancé·es peuvent se rencontrer. Nous nous efforçons d’assurer une parité de genre dans les intervenant·es.
SSEMP XIV aura lieu du 14 mai à 11h00 au 15 mai à 16h00 (environ).
